Cuban cuisine is the fusion of food ingredients inherited from different stages of Cuban history, the arrival of the Spaniards and slaves from the African Continent, who not only introduced their gastronomic traditions to the island but also brought their Yoruba religion beliefs; which were assimilated by the island's inhabitants and with the presence of the Catholic religion, a syncretism with the Yoruba religion originated.

This dish Ochinchin is very special as a simple and effective offering for Oshun, once it is cooked it is placed on a plate over a bed of raw Swiss chard and sprinkled with a little honey on top and presented before a representative image of Oshun, such as an image of the Virgin of Charity of Cobre.
There are other ways to prepare this dish like Ochinchin with ground corn, which involves using dried shelled corn, undergoing a process before boiling it in water until it softens and adding sugar, salt, cinnamon, and lard.
