Ingredients

1 liter of Milk

2 Pieces of lemon peel

1 Small cinnamon stick

4 Egg yolks

1 cup of Sugar

4 milliliters of Cornstarch

¼ cup of Water

8 Maria biscuits

4 tablespoons of Sugar for gratin

1 teaspoon of Vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1 : To prepare this dessert, start by placing a liter of milk in a pot with the lemon peel and a cinnamon stick.

Step 2 : Heat over low-medium heat and, before it boils, turn off the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Step 3 : In a separate bowl, place the egg yolks and sugar, and mix well.

Step 4 : Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/4 cup of cold water and add it to the egg and sugar mixture.

Step 5 : Combine all the ingredients well and start adding the strained milk to avoid leaving pieces of lemon peel or cinnamon.

Step 6 : Once all the ingredients are combined, place the pot over low heat and mix constantly.

Step 7 : When the texture is creamy, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, mix, cook for a few more minutes, and then turn off the heat.

Step 8 : Fill small oven-safe containers with a Maria biscuit at the bottom, then pour in the custard.

Step 9 : When the custard is cold, sprinkle sugar on top for gratin.

Step 10 : If you have a torch, you can caramelize the sugar.

Step 11 : You can also bake the custards if you do not have these tools, or decorate them with crushed Maria biscuits or a little ground cinnamon.
